28. August 20251 J. I,m at present rebuilding my severly damaged ZPJ4 engine & have checked & rebuilt every nut & bolt on said engine... But I have a problem... on putting the front rocker assembly together there are 2 x 6mm cap screws that hold the ends of the shaft to the base plate... on my set up these bolts go straight through the shaft... I think there are 2 half moon washers missing... the same type as fitted to the other rockers... Has anyone have a Technical bullitan that shows the correct installation for these shafts. Cheers Eddie.
28. August 20251 J. Hast du WhatsApp? Dann kann ich ggfs behilflich sein. Ich habe solche Motoren öfters zerlegt und wieder zusammengesetzt. Grüße Eric Via PN

18. September 202518. Sep Ersteller Eric, I,ve repaired the rocker shaft & have now completed fitting the cylinder heads to my engine...I installed the front timing chain as per the Russek manual then turned the engine 240 degree & installed the rear timing chain...the engine is now locked...as per the manual both camshafts are the same...so If I,m timing the front head at number 1 at TDC on the firing stroke...I must now set the rear head at TDC on number 4 stroke...I found a Peugeot site which says the engine must be turned 360 degree & then a further 240 degree to set up number 4...this makes sence...if I just turn the engine 240 degree I,m making number 3 at TDC...is this correct the engine must turn 1 revolution then 240 degree.
18. September 202518. Sep Ganz wichtig, du musst 360 +240 Grad anwenden. Die 1 in der Reparatur steht für eine komplette Umdrehung . Ich habe das Anfangs auch verkehrt gemacht.

In case you are not aware, there is documentation from Citroen available on the interwebs: http://ckc.dk/cgi/catlist? Where in the UK are you located, if I may inquire? I spent three years at the SW coast, Bournemouth to be exact. Stunning place, splendid times, wonderful people. Sweet memories of times long gone. And not a single XM spotted on the roads. I did stumble across a Trabant though (a car that has been produced in Eastern Germany, we like to call it "Pappe" - cardboard). Wishing you the best of luck with your rebuild. Cheers, Michael
19. September 202519.
19. September 202519. Sep Ersteller Thanks for the replies guy,s...but the instructions in the Russek manual with regards fitting the timing chains to the ZPJ4 engine are WRONG....timing the front or right bank is correct...your setting the cam timing on cylinder number 1 on the compression stroke...the problem is...as the camshafts are identicle...unlike the ZPJ... you must now set the rear or left bank at number 4 on the compression stroke...because number 4 is the last cylinder to fire in the 720 degree cycle you must turn the engine 600 degree to set the timing chain & NOT just 240 degree as the manual says.

19. September 202519. Sep This is the original workshop manual. A copy can be found here: Quote In case you are not aware, there is documentation from Citroen available on the interwebs: http://ckc.dk/cgi/catlist? Scroll to "MAN008931". Just a headsup, this particular one is in French. Within that pdf, find chapter XM 122-0/4 (page 306ff). Bearbeitet (19. September 202519. Sep von schwinge)

This is also described in the German Peugeot manual I linked to on page 57 for the ZPJ4: "Rear cylinder head...turn crankshaft ONE TURN PLUS 240° clockwise." However, there is only an illustration there for the ZPJ, with the specified 240°. Gruß, Joschko Bearbeitet (19. September 202519. Sep von Joschko)
